The GW project is wrapping up (dare I say it?!? - Nah!) and so is the time here in Japan for a few families that kicked off the PSNS Yokosuka Detachment. Most notably, for us, are the Strands (Dwayne - also a member of the ABC (Ancient Bike Club) & our babysitters!) and the Putaansuus ('Kegerator Tim', Auntie "May I have some gum, please" Caroline & long-time-friend William).
To honor those that have been here from 'the beginning' as well as give the detachment a pat-on-the-back for working hard and having the end in sight, the PSNS Spouse's Club put on a Chili-Contest/Potluck (give it purpose/minimize the clean-up!).
It turned out great - we had over a dozen chili entries. Two of our "Founding Fathers" won - 2nd & 3rd place! Congratulations Dwayne & Terry, respectively! Dwayne was in the running for more than just a chili feed...
Jaye Sullivan pulled out all the stops with her "Finger Lickin' White Chicken Chili" and, not surprisingly, won 1st place! Stefan nearly screamed in excitement! "I put ALL THREE OF MY STARS ON HERS!!! I WANTED hers to WIIIIIIIIINNNNNN!!!!!" She won by a margin of 15 :)
She won a kokeshi (that looks like she may have had chili for dinner...) and a partially used bottle of Bean-o! And a T-shirt (from the 2010 project...) Winning is all about the status, right?!?
In fact, all winners won a T-shirt... I had four, but only the top three were getting prizes. What to do with that last shirt...
Fortunately for me! Third place was a tie! Glad I had four shirts! Ha!
We got a huge "sheet cake" (a sheet of icing over cupcakes) - best invention EVER! No knife. No forks. No plates. Only mess is fingers and face:
Dougie had a huge ring of blue around his mouth... His tongue and teeth matched. Wish I had a picture...
The weather went from "wear your swimsuit and bring your water guns" to "Chilly Weather" just as before we set up. The kids did not have a clue that it was not warm and continued to sabotage each other. The adults cured their "Chilly" with "Chili". The rain held out until we were headed home.
All-in-all, it was a great event. Strands & Putaansuus - you will all be missed by us (and the project, I am sure...)!
