The Accidental Tourist

The first day in Kauai brought us "stormy weather"
Cloudy sky "blocking" backlit by the sunshine...
Once the kids woke up (Ian was the latest at almost 11...), we had some lunch at the Shrimp Station in Kapaa (AWESOME!!!) and then decided to drive up to see the waterfall that was made famous by the "Fantasy Island" opener (Da plane! Da plane, boss!).  So, we drove.  Oops - missed the road.  So we turned around.  Oops - wrong way.  So we turned.  Oops - wrong road!

In the end, it turns out, we had the wrong falls!  Wailua falls is the famous "Fantasy Island" falls.  We saw Opaeka'a Falls (success, finally!).  It was very lovely and we had a great road-side tour of the East-side of Kauai!

Run, Forest, Run!!!

The boys enjoyed the scenery and climbing and playing on a railing and its wall that was part of a raised viewing area with a ramp (presumably for wheelchairs, so those sitting can have a better view).  It was WELL away from the edge and had a walkway separating it from the railing that kept you from falling over the really steep cliff...

Somehow the conversation strayed to the Three Stooges.  Stefan asked if he could watch them.  We all decided those were antics better left unlearned, for now!

We headed down to a "Hawaiian Village" down in the river valley.  Read: "Hawaiian Village: Tourist Trap".  Pay your $5/person to visit a reconstructed original Hawaiian Village built on the site of an actual village...

But you could pet the kitty for free:
Kitty!

Look Mummy - Kitty!  Look Grammie - Kitty!

Don't go, Kitty - Stay!  I will pet you more...
